CoolVu BirdsEyeVu is a bird-friendly glass marker system that reduces bird collisions by up to 95%, with 20+ year durability and a 15-year warranty.

What BirdsEyeVu Film Does

BirdsEyeVu film applies dense visual markers to the exterior surface of glass that make the glass visible to birds, reducing collisions by up to 95%. Birds cannot perceive clear or reflective glass as a solid barrier, they see reflected sky or vegetation and fly into it. BirdsEyeVu markers interrupt these reflections with patterns spaced at intervals birds recognize as obstacles.

The markers are made from durable cast vinyl with a 20+ year outdoor lifespan. They cover minimal glass surface area, so the view from inside remains largely unobstructed. BirdsEyeVu is tested and approved by the American Bird Conservancy and recommended by conservation organizations worldwide. Multiple dot and linear patterns are available in 10+ configurations, plus custom pattern capabilities. The product supports LEED credits for bird-friendly design in green building projects.

BirdsEyeVu Pattern Options

Dot Patterns

Circular markers in grid patterns applied to the exterior glass surface. Symmetry pattern uses 2″x2″ dot spacing; Rain pattern uses 2″x4″ spacing. Both reduce collisions by up to 95% while covering minimal glass area.

Linear Patterns

Vertical line markers at controlled spacing that create a visual barrier birds recognize. Sequence pattern uses 2″x1″-1.75″ line spacing. Preferred for architectural applications where a linear aesthetic suits the building design.

Custom Patterns

Custom marker configurations for projects with specific aesthetic or branding requirements. Available in 4+ colors with custom spacing. Allows integration of building identity with bird-safety compliance.

    Common Questions

Is BirdsEyeVu film worth the investment for my building?
BirdsEyeVu film is a cost-effective way to prevent bird-glass collisions that can number in the hundreds per building per year. Each collision risks glass damage, liability exposure, and reputational harm for buildings in environmentally conscious communities. The film costs a fraction of replacing glass with factory-etched bird-friendly glazing and can be applied to existing windows without replacement. For commercial buildings, BirdsEyeVu supports LEED credits under the bird collision deterrence pilot credit, which can be the difference in achieving certification. The markers are cast vinyl with a 20+ year outdoor lifespan, so the investment is long-term. We provide a free on-site assessment to identify the highest-risk glass on your property.
How effective is BirdsEyeVu at preventing bird collisions?
BirdsEyeVu reduces bird-glass collisions by up to 95%. The markers are tested and approved by the American Bird Conservancy and recommended by conservation organizations worldwide. Documented case studies include the Oregon Zoo Education Center (zero collisions since 2017 installation), Swarthmore College (one collision since 2017), the Javits Center in New York (90% reduction since 2013), and the National Aviary (zero collisions since 2020). The effectiveness depends on proper pattern selection and spacing, markers must be dense enough that birds perceive the glass as a barrier rather than an open flight path. We recommend the right pattern for each glass exposure during the on-site assessment.
Is the film visible from inside the building?
The markers are visible from both sides, but they cover minimal glass surface area. Most occupants report that the dot or line patterns become unnoticeable within days as the eye adjusts. The view through the glass remains largely unobstructed because the markers are small and spaced at intervals designed to deter birds while preserving sight lines. The Rain 2×4 pattern, for example, uses wider horizontal spacing that minimizes visual impact from inside. For buildings where interior aesthetics are a priority, linear patterns often integrate more naturally with architectural lines. We bring samples to every consultation so you can see the visual impact on your actual glass before committing.
Does BirdsEyeVu film qualify for LEED credits?
Yes. BirdsEyeVu supports LEED credits under the bird collision deterrence pilot credit (Pilot Credit 55). For new construction and major renovation projects pursuing LEED certification, bird-friendly glazing treatment can contribute points toward the Sustainable Sites category. The product meets the threat-factor criteria established by the American Bird Conservancy for effective bird deterrence. We provide documentation supporting the LEED submission including product specifications, pattern coverage calculations, and installation records. For architects and project managers pursuing LEED certification, we coordinate directly with the design team.
    How is BirdsEyeVu film installed?
BirdsEyeVu markers are applied to the exterior surface of the glass, which is where birds see the reflection. The surface is cleaned thoroughly, and the cast vinyl markers are applied using a wet-application method for precise positioning. Installation is done from the outside using ladders, lifts, or swing stages depending on building height. The markers are not a full-sheet film, they are individual elements applied in the specified pattern. Most installations are completed in one to two days depending on the amount of glass. The cast vinyl material is engineered for exterior exposure with a 20+ year lifespan.
Can BirdsEyeVu be applied to any type of glass?
BirdsEyeVu markers can be applied to virtually any smooth exterior glass surface including clear, tinted, Low-E, tempered, laminated, and insulated glass units. The cast vinyl adheres to the exterior face of the glass regardless of the glass composition. For double-pane and triple-pane units, the markers go on the outermost surface where birds encounter the reflection. The markers do not affect the glass warranty or thermal performance. For curved glass or non-standard geometries, custom pattern layouts can accommodate the surface shape.
How long does BirdsEyeVu film last?
BirdsEyeVu markers are made from durable cast vinyl engineered for exterior exposure. The manufacturer rates the product for 20+ years of outdoor performance, which equates to protection through 40+ bird migration seasons. The vinyl resists UV degradation, temperature cycling, and moisture. The markers can be cleaned with common window cleaning solutions using a soft cloth or squeegee, power washing is not recommended as it can damage the vinyl. If individual markers are damaged, they can be replaced without removing the entire installation.
